Creating A Regional Economic Blueprint

The purpose of the Sustainable Economy Initiative is to develop a strategic blueprint for sustainable economic development in the Northern Forest region based on balanced investment in business, community and environment. The project has developed directly from the work and findings of the Northern Forest Lands Council 10th Anniversary Forum. In the first of four recommendations endorsed by the Northern Forest governors, the Forum called for “community and economic development strategies across the region to reinvigorate the rural economies of the Northern Forest.”

Who’s Involved?
The Northern Forest Center and New Hampshire’s North Country Council with support from all four states and the congressional delegation, have secured funds from the federal Economic Development Administration and private donors to implement this recommendation. The project is directed by a four-state steering committee jointly appointed by the four Northern Forest governors and the project managers.
